OCR: solating and testing for Pb: Lead chloride is soluble in HOT water. Silver Chloride and Mercurous Chloride are not soluble in hot water. When the 3 salts + distilled water are placed in the hot water bath, the lead chloride goes into solution. When this solution is removed from the test tube, the liquid can be tested for the presence of lead ions by the addition of Chromate ions. The combination of Lead ions and Chromate ions produces the yellow precipitate, Lead Chromate. A sample of the solution can also be tested for the presence of lead by the addition of Sulfuric Acid. When Sulfate is reacted with Lead ions, the white precipitate, Lead Sulfate is produced.
